Historic Coca-Cola Bottling Plant Transforms Into HIGHPOINT Urban Living

KWA Construction completes upscale apartment community in Fort Worth’s Medical District.

KWA Construction, a leading general contractor specializing in multifamily developments in Texas, has completed construction of HIGHPOINT Urban Living, a 227-unit apartment development on the site of the former 1920s Coca-Cola bottling plant in the Fort Worth Medical District’s burgeoning Near Southside neighborhood.

“KWA helped developer Seneca Investments revive the iconic Coca-Cola bottling plant and incorporate it into the six-story HIGHPOINT Urban Living community, assisting in the city’s on-going revitalization efforts,” said KWA Construction President Brian Webster. “While the restoration was not without its challenges, we were able to preserve many original features of this historic building while focusing on developing high-end living units for the area.”

N.T.S. Architects and Planners and Fort Worth-based Oxley Williams Tharp Architects designed the 400,000-square foot project, which involved breathing new life into the building while maintaining historic details such as the original exterior brick, reclaimed wood beams along open ceilings and stained concrete flooring. Along the central corridor, HIGHPOINT embraced the site’s rich history with etched glass reminiscent of an earlier time. Throughout the development, stately Coca-Cola artwork hangs along the walls of common areas.

Modern amenities include granite countertops, brushed nickel appliances, hardwood-style flooring and stainless steel appliances. Outside, residents can enjoy a bicycle rental station, a resort-style swimming pool, cabanas and a firepit, which speak to the designer’s goal of creating an upscale living community.

The city has been revitalizing the nearly 1,400-acre area just south of Downtown Fort Worth with sustainability and urban development efforts, including “Bike Fort Worth,” the city’s comprehensive plan for promoting bicycling as a safe and attractive transportation option.

Located at 650 S. Main Street in Fort Worth’s Medical District, HIGHPOINT Urban Living has units ranging in size from 631-square foot one-bedrooms priced at $1,030 a month to 1,257-square foot two-bedrooms priced at $1,795 a month. Its central location provides easy access to major highways and area attractions including convention centers, breweries and live music venues.
